I talked to an engineer at a Symposium years ago about this and he didn't believe the problems I reported. He then tried them back at the office and found that it was really broken. He said he'd look at them and fix them, but he got laid off... More details at the end of the reply. > We can get a directory listing and can copy file from the tape. Has > DEC gone to a new Diagnostic monitor and/or boot procedure for these > diagnostics? Yes to both. What style is a TE16 - MT, MM, or MS? If it's MT, you're out of luck - XXDP was "desupported" on MT drives. I think there's a problem with MM booting as well in some cases. I just gave up and built a bootable RL02 pack. Then I have an RL02 in a short rack on wheels that I roll around to the different systems. and I pop a controller in when I need to test a system. Here's a few of the known problems with the new XXDP: 1) no MT boot 2) can't write MM at 1600BPI 3) some diagnostics don't run with either the small or big monitor, but have to run with an older monitor from an old tape. RP07 formatter is an example. 4) some diagnostics will no longer run from tape, but must be copied to disk. 11/44 CPU diags when booted from TU80 all trap to 10, works fine from disk. 5) on-disk filesystem has changed
