Chimera for x-windows dummies:
------------------------------

Warning! If you are not an x-windows idiot, read no further -
you will be insulted (if you didn't notice the lower case 'x'
in 'x' windows, you qualify as an x-windows dummy, so continue).

Many thanks go to Jim Rees (U. Mich.) for compiling chimera
v. 1.65 and making these binaries available on the net. So,
he did all the work, but I am providing dummy-proof instructions
about how to get his code running on your apollo workstation.

1. Get gunzip from the U. Mich. archives, if you don't have it.
(anonymous ftp from archive.umich.edu, or WWW from
http://www.umich.edu/~archive). This compiles pretty easily.

2. Get the X11R5 share mode binaries from the U. Mich archives.
Unzip/untar this in directory /usr/local/X11R5/include. Move the
share mode binary file 'x11r5lib' to /usr/local/lib/x11r5lib.

3. Get the Chimera-1.65 binaries from the U. Mich archives. Unzip/
untar this in directory /usr/local/chimera.

4. Get the following ascii files via anonymous ftp from
squid.cee.uc.edu (129.137.189.75) in directory 'pub/chimera':
        README (this file)
        chimera (a shell script)
Chimera.xcolors (a file of chimera Xwindows colors)
Chimera.ad (a file of other X chimera resources)

5. Put file chimera in your command search path (e.g., /usr/local/bin).
Put Chimera.xcolors in directory /usr/local/chimera/chimera-1.65/apollo_m68k.
Put Chimera.ad in directory /usr/local/chimera/chimera-1.65/apollo_m68k/src
(this will replace the existing Chimera.ad).

6. Copy file /usr/local/chimera/chimera-1.65/apollo_m68k/lib/home.html to
new file /usr/local/homepage/index.html (this will be your local
home page, which you will want to modify).

7. create the directory /usr/local/chimera/cache. Make this
directory writable by everyone (chmod 777 /usr/local/chimera/cache).

7. Execute 'chimera' (the shell script) and have fun. The first
time you try to use bookmarks, it will warn you that it can not
locate the bookmark file. Do not fret - Go back to the URL that
you wanted to save (by pressing the 'back' button), and save the
bookmark. At that time chimera will create the bookmark file
~/.chimera_bookmark and thereafter you won't get the warning.

8. If you want to change colors, change the Chimera.xcolors file.
If you want to change anything else change the Chimera.ad file.

Of course there are better ways to do this, but I am an x-windows
idiot.
