This directory contains sources and manual pages for some hacks that
convert Compuserve GIF(tm) format files into 1) PostScript and 2)
8-plane color-mapped Sun rasterfiles. Giftops, the PostScript
converter, should run on most flavors of Unix (I've run it on Suns and
NeXT machines), while giftoras (the rasterfile converter) will only
work on a Sun workstation. I haven't verified that it will work on a
Sun 386i. Lastly, gifinfo is just a hack to tell me how big a GIF
file is.

These programs are all derived from ``giftops'' by Scott Hemphill.
Credit also goes to James Frew, the author of ``suntops'', from which
I borrowed a number of ideas and PostScript code segments. I made further
modifications to suit my needs, and created Unix manual pages for the
programs.

Neither I nor my employer make any representation at all that these
programs will compile, run, or work correctly for you, but they have
been rumored to compile and work reasonably well on a Sun-4 running
SunOS 4.0. You mileage may vary. :-)
