vim 5.8

Will extract into /opt/gnu, uses 16 MB(!) of disk space (compare
that with the 150 kB which /usr/ucb/vi uses and ask yourself again
if you really need it ;-)
When installing essential_gnu and vim 5.8, be sure to install
first the GNU package, and _after that_ vim 5.8
You may want to remove /opt/gnu/lib/vim.hlp from vim 3.0
in the essential_gnu package after installing vim 5.8,
which comes with its own help files.
