This is a binary distribution of perl release 4.036 to Coherent 4.2, sources
are available on request from MWC.

For installation of GNU products under Coherent the standard path is /u1/gnu.
This was done because a complete GNU distribution is huge and one might want
to have it on a own partition. So first create the directory /u1 if it doesn't
exist on your system. If you don't want to mount a own partition on this
directory just create /u1/gnu on the root partition, that's fine too.
If you want to have the stuff on it's own partition first mount this partition
to /u1 and then create /u1/gnu.

Now create /u1/gnu/bin and copy all files from the directory bin there.
Then create /u1/gnu/lib/perl and copy all files from the directory lib there.

If you want you can install the man pages too, I would suggest to use the
directory /usr/man/GNU for that. The man pages already are formatted so
that you can use them with the Coherent man command.

You have to add /u1/gnu/bin to the PATH environment variable in /etc/profile,
so that the shells searches this path and can find the executables and
perl scripts.
