Pecha Kucha in Groningen

Nieuwe Garde is organizing a pecha kucha night in our hometown Groningen!
the 16th of march :D

For everyone who doesn’t know what a Pecha Kucha night is: The Japanese term ‘Pecha Kucha’ roughly translates as ‘chit-chat.’ Around twelve participants get to show 20 slides for 20 seconds each, meaning the audience experiences an exhilarating range of speakers and images over the course of the evening. There’s also music, drinking and the inevitable exchange of ideas that occurs when you get so many creative people together in the same room.

i designed the flyer for this event so i thought i’d just flaunt it a bit ;)

so looking forward to it!
so if you’re in the neighbourhood be sure to check out the the nieuwe garde website
and the flyers for more info
but yeah, feel free to drop by and shake our hands there ;)

be sure to keep an eye on the pingmag website aswell :D

cheers :)

Dual Nocona

I was lucky to spot some Noconas on a site here in The Netherlands. They are 2.8Ghz/800MHz FSB models, but most important (for me), they’re EM64T-models a.k.a. 64-bit. I had this upgrade in my mind, ever since I bought my NCCH-DL motherboard, to put in my modded SGI320-case...

/usr/bin/gimmeajoke

These are as old as the universe I guess… Or well, as old as the UNIX-universe. Still, I spotted these tonight and found them highly amusing (which tells a lot about me too, I guess).

the IT crowd

For Bright I did a write-up on the IT crowd, a sitcom which is aired by Channel 4 in the UK. I watched all 6 episodes of this sysadmin sitcom and it’s hugely funny! Thankfully by the means of tha intarweb, you can download it yourself!

I won’t be repeating here what I wrote for Bright (even though that’s in Dutch)

Jen, Roy and Moss

I suggest if you like this site, you pretty much will like this comedy, so check out some of the episodes!:

Japan to ban resale of used electronics

2nd hand electronics sales will soon be illegal in Japan

As of April 2006, it will be illegal to sell used electronics that are 5 years old or older in Japan.

Bizarre… It would mean I wouldn’t be able to buy or sell almost anything I like… geez…

that is of course, if I would live in Japan, which, as a matter of fact, I don’t…

picture of me moving my stuff, seemed fitting somehow…

making a $100 laptop for $75! ...sort of...

For an article in Bright I made this hand-crankable eMate, as some sort of tribute (if you like) to the $100 laptop.

You can read about what I did on my projectpage

I promised myself that this eMate will be my last hand-crank project for now… Somehow I don’t wanna become this hand-cranking-everything-one-trick-pony… ;-) Next to that, I’ve got lots and lots of stuff waiting to become a project and none of that has anything to do with hand-cranking or such, so you can expect different projects as well…

it’s featured on MAKE:blog *^_^*

you can comment on the projectpage btw…

catch of the day, 2 identical compact Macs

This is my catch of the day, 2 identical Compact Macs, SE/30’s to be precise. I have this latent imaginary list of stuff I’d like to have and two identical compact Macs were on that too… Two days ago a collegue of mine asked me if I still was interested in these two, when he just got them he thought they would be worth a lot, as museumpieces or such, but the reality is, they aren’t… It’s mass-produced and I rescue them from the scrapheap, that’s more like it… Anyways, I told him about a year ago I was willing to pay 10 euros each for them and that’s what I payed now…

(pics taken with my phone at my desk at work btw)

...so, what are my plans with these? Well, I’m not gonna tell in detail yet, but I have been inspired by pics from the lo-tech lounge over at C-TRL Labs... Compact Macs as networked 1-bit gaming wonders, something like that … When you have the patience, you’ll see what becomes of this… More on this later…

Oh, my videocard arrived today, more on that later too…

...first I have to finish writing up another project… (it’s about bloody time I post something in my own projectlab, now isn’t it?)

things to do with an ipod sock (3)

Oh dear… someone decided to make an ipod sock puppet and make a video out of it…

Make:blog says sorry… so do I *^_^*

(why oh why does ‘Ice Ice Baby’ seem like the perfect song for this very very sorry video?...) :D

cleaning out some ads... (poll!)

Well… some ads simply don’t work and/or I don’t have the traffic to make money on them and/or I’m not motivated enough to be busy with spammer-stuff like ad-optimization and such. To be honest, I hate it, so I cleaned out some ads. With clickrates around 1 in every 1000 I say, I’m not going to annoy 999 people to make $0.01 on nr.1000 … You may call me stoopid, but I like it better this way.

So, for now that means I’m back with Google-ads and Google-ads alone… Of course, it’s still my goal to get this thing to break even, but if that means I have to turn this thing into a christmastree, I’d rather be flipping burgers for 2 hours to make up for the lost profit… :D

So, the weekend-poll is pretty obvious this time, but never the less…

how do you feel about ads being removed?
definately the way to go!
78% / 64 votes
are you stoopid or what?
22% / 18 votes
Total Votes: 82

and the results of the previous poll:

which way should this site go, your opinion:
Sure, blog whatever you guys want and post a project every now and then, that's just fine
49%
I'd only like to see geeky projects, you can leave the rest, never mind a daily update
23%
Let Nijne do the blogging and Mark, you just stick to your soldergun...
3%
Mark, never mind and in all due respect... WE WANT NIJNE!
9%
none of the above (I expect a comment if you choose this! ;-))
16%
Total Votes: 194

So… thanks go out to everybody who voted (well, almost everybody, except the ones who want me out of here… *^_^* )

(that is a joke of course…)
