 1. BEFORE YOU START

You need a MicroChannel machine with an IBM SCSI host adapter and the
   Windows NT operating system.

Unpack the contents of SPOCK2NT.ZIP in a directory or on a diskette.
You should have the following files:

   SPOCK2NT <DIR> -- Windows NT SPOCK-206 drivers
SPOCK2 SYS -- Binary, IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206
SPOCK2B SYS -- Binary, IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206 DISK LIGHT
SPOCK2C SYS -- Binary, IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206 LED DISPLAY
SPOCK2NT -- Driver setup tag file
TXTSETUP OEM -- Driver setup file
SPOCK206 INF -- Windows NT driver installation INF file
README TXT -- Driver information and test reports
      INSTALL TXT -- Installation instructions

To differentiate between the Windows NT SPOCK driver and the SPOCK-206
drivers, the driver descriptions have been defined as follows:

IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206 = IBM MCA SCSI Host Adapter on SPOCK-206
IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206 DISK LIGHT = Same as above, with disk light enabled
IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206 LED DISPLAY = Same as above, with LED Display Panel
IBM MCA SCSI Host Adapter = This is the Windows NT driver.

NOTE: SPOCK-206 can operate the disk light on your machine to indicate
communications with the SCSI host adapter. However, the disk activity light
does not necessarily imply your fixed disks are being accessed, it rather
indicates an activity on the SCSI bus.

Select "IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206 DISK LIGHT" at installation time if you wish
the driver to manage the disk activity light.

Select "IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206" at installation time if you wish to disable
the disk activity light. This version will NOT operate the disk light on your
machine. It is the fastest driver version.

Select "IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206 LED DISPLAY" at installation time if you
wish to monitor the communication between the host adapter and SPOCK-206
on the SCSI bus on the LED Display Panel of the IBM PS/2 Server 95. This
version of the driver will indicate READ, WRITE and other SCSI commands
along with their operational codes as defined in the ANSI SCSI-II Standard.

See README.TXT for the list of driver messages and SCSI-II command codes.

 2. DRIVER INSTALLATION PROCEDURE

Follow the instructions below to successfully install the SPOCK-206 driver.
Remember to push the "NO" button when prompted by Windows NT to restart the
computer. You must first manually remove the previous SPOCK driver and only
   then restart your computer.

Click Start, then Settings, then Control Panel.

      Start the "System" applet program.

Select "SCSI Adapters" and start the SCSI applet.

      Select the "Driver" tab.

      Push the "Add" button.

      Select Other vendors

      Push the "Have Disk" button.

Specify the path to the drive and directory with the SPOCK206 files

Select SPOCK206 as the INF file.

Select the desired SPOCK206 version from the driver list.

When promted by Windows NT to enter the path to the driver files,
enter the full path to the driver directory, for example, A:\SPOCK2NT

When promted by Windows NT, select the option to copy files from
      the driver disk.

The driver files will be copied to X:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS
where X: is your OS drive.

PUSH the NO button when Windows NT prompts you to RESTART the system.

Go back to the SCSI Adapters window where the installed drivers are
listed. In most cases you will have two different SPOCK driver entries.

Select the previous SPOCK driver entry, it could be also a SPOCK-206.

Push the REMOVE (or DELETE) button to remove the previous SPOCK driver.

Be sure that only one "IBM MCA SCSI SPOCK-206 ..." driver remains in
the list, the driver you just selected to install.

Restart your system to apply the changes.

 3. REINSTALLING THE WINDOWS NT SPOCK DRIVER

To reinstall the default Windows NT Spock driver, perform the SPOCK-206
   installation procedure described above.

This time select IBM and then select "IBM MCA SCSI Host-Adapter".

When prompted by Windows NT, select to use the installed driver file.

PUSH the NO button when Windows NT prompts you to RESTART the system.

Go back to the SCSI Adapters window where the installed drivers are
listed. In most cases you will have two different SPOCK driver entries.

Select the previous SPOCK-206 driver entry.

Push the REMOVE (or DELETE) button to remove the previous driver.

Be sure that only "IBM MCA SCSI Host Adapter" remains in the list.

Restart your system to apply the changes.

 4. RECOVERING FROM INSTALLATION FAILURES

If, during driver installation, you have incidentally clicked on YES to
restart your system before you have removed the previous SPOCK driver,
your NT system will fail to start. The reason is that you have left behind
two different drivers competing for the same resources. That is not good.

To repair your installation, you will have to start with the Windows NT
setup diskettes. The procedure is quick and easy:

Insert Setup Disk 1 and start your machine.

   Follow the setup instructions.

Select R in setup to Repair the existing Windows NT installation.

Check only the SYSTEM files option to repair.

Skip other repair options, like hard disk check etc.

Check only the REGISTRY files option to repair.

Windows NT will reinstall the Windows NT SPOCK driver

Restart your machine when prompted to do so.

NOTE: After Repair, Windows NT will reset the Service Pack Level. Your
files, however, have not changed, if you have followed the described
procedure and not repaired any system files other than the registry.

END.
