                        INSTALLATION OF UTILITIES

    The floppy disk shipped with the modem contains utility software which
    should be installed on your hard disk. Refer to the Modem Installation
    Program User Guide section of this file for information on installing and
    configuring the KIT card modem.

    The utilities provided with the KIT modem are:

        1) INSTALL - Installs & Configures the KIT Modem
                  The install program copies the utility programs onto
                  your hard disk. If desired, it also tests and
                  configures the KIT Card Modem and updates the
                  AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files to automatically
                  invoke the CONFIG and HOTKIT programs with the
                  necessary parameters to enable the KIT modem.

        2) CONFIG - Modem Configuration Program
                  Only needed if your PC does NOT come equipped with
                  a PCMCIA device driver that supports "I/O" cards, such
                  as the KIT modem. If no such PCMCIA device driver
                  is shipped with your PC then use CONFIG to configure
                  the KIT modem for operation before you start Windows(tm)
                  or attempt to run any communications software.

        3) UPGRADE- Modem Upgrade Program
                  This utility re-programs the KIT modem with new releases
                  of software, as they are made available on the AT&T
                  Paradyne BBS.

        4) HOTKIT - Hot Insertion program for KIT
                  Only needed if your PC does NOT come equipped with a
                  PCMCIA device driver that supports "I/O cards, such as
                  the KIT modem. HOTKIT is a terminate and stay resident
                  program that initializes the KIT modem when it is
                  inserted into the designated PCMCIA slot.

        NOTE:
        The KIT Utilities' Modem Diagnostic Program (TEST.EXE) is no longer
        supported or provided for the KIT Card Modem.

    ****************************** IMPORTANT *******************************
    Please note that the KIT Utilities may be incompatible with your PC's
    PCMCIA device drivers (if installed) and could cause the PC to lock-up,
    requiring a system reboot. It is recommended that you comment out (REM)
    the PCMCIA drivers in the CONFIG.SYS file and reboot the PC before
    using the KIT Utilities. This comment applies especially to the
    UPGRADE utility which provides features not found in PCMCIA device
    drivers.

                  MODEM INSTALLATION PROGRAM - USER GUIDE

    The AT&T KeepInTouch Card modem INSTALL program uncompresses and
    copies the KIT Utilities to your hard drive. Once completed, you can
    use the auto-configure option to setup your system to automatically
    configure the KIT card modem by finding an available IRQ, COM port,
    and memory window. You can choose to update the AUTOEXEC.BAT and
    CONFIG.SYS files with the auto-configuration information so that the KIT
    card will always be configured as an I/O device when you power-up the
    system. Follow the instructions in the INSTALL.TXT file to configure the
    KIT card modem.

    NOTE: The auto-configure option is not necessary if your PC already
           has PCMCIA Card & Socket Services drivers that configure the
           KIT card modem. The autoconfigure option requires additional
           DOS environment memory space to execute properly. Add or modify
           the following line in your CONFIG.SYS file and reboot your
           system:
                   SHELL=C:\DOS\COMMAND.COM /p /e:2048

           The "/e:2048" parameter provides a 2 Kbyte buffer for the DOS
           environment memory space.

                  MODEM CONFIGURATION PROGRAM - USER GUIDE

    Before the AT&T KeepInTouch Card can be used with communication
    applications (and before you load Windows), it must be configured.
    The INSTALL program's auto-configuration option examines your system,
    locates a 4 Kbyte unused memory window, a free communication port,
    verifies the communication port IRQ, and finds an available hot insertion
    IRQ. If desired, the INSTALL program will add or update the CONFIG.EXE and
    HOTKIT.COM with valid parameters to your system's AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

    The modem can be configured on COM1,2,3 or 4 using the Modem Configuration
    Program (CONFIG). The CONFIG program needs a 4 Kbyte memory window to
    communicate with the KIT modem. This 4Kbyte memory window can be allocated
    from an Upper Memory Block (between memory address range: 640 Kbytes
    to 1 Megabyte) or from the extended memory area (between memory address
    range: 1 Megabyte to 16 Megabyte).

    For online help simply type: CONFIG HELP, from the DOS prompt.

    NOTE: If you use an extended memory manager, assure that a 4 Kbyte
          memory window is reserved for auto-configuration. If you use
          MemMaker to re-configure your system, assure that the memory
          window is still available for the CONFIG program.

          Also assure that COM port is available for the CONFIG program.
          You can determine the COM port assigned to the KIT card modem
          after it is configured by using the DOS SET command and reviewing
          the DOS environment variable AT&TCOM= value.

    USING THE CONFIG PROGRAM
    ------------------------
    The following steps describe the usage of the CONFIG program for
    configuring the KIT card modem when PCMCIA drivers are not available
    on your system.

    1. Run the CONFIG program by typing the following command at the DOS
       prompt:
         C:\> CONFIG <Enter>

         See command line parameters below for details on how to configure
         the KIT card modem on your PC system.

         The CONFIG program will display a banner indicating the version
         of the program and indicate that the KIT card modem is being reset
         and configured. The CONFIG program assumes that an INTEL 82365SL
         PCMCIA Controller or compatible controller is being used. If your
         system uses another controller, see parameters below to determine
         other controllers supported by CONFIG.

    2. If the configuration program fails, an error code will be printed on
       the display screen. Refer to the Error Codes section of this file
       to determine the cause and solution for the error.

       If you cannot resolve the problem, contact the AT&T Paradyne Technical
       Support Center at 1-800-237-0016.

    3. If the configuration program is successful, the KIT modem product
       information will be displayed on the screen as follows:

       Modem Configured on COM port: COMy, IRQz

       Modem Identity is:
       AT&T Paradyne
       KeepInTouch Card
       376x Series
       Czz.zz.zz

       where: 'y' is 1,2,3 or 4 for COM1, COM2, COM3, or COM4
              'z' is 3 for COM1 and COM4, 4 for COM2 and COM3
              'zz.zz.zz' is the modem firmware revision number

    4. You may need to specify command line parameters for the CONFIG program
       in order for the KIT card to configure properly. For instance, the
       SLOTx parameter must be specified when the KIT card has already been
       configured. So, if the KIT card was previously configured in SLOTB,
       then use the following command to turn audio on or off:
           C:\> CONFIG AUDIO SLOTB

       The CONFIG program command line parameters and examples are described
       in the following text.

       NOTE: If your PC was manufactured by TOSHIBA (model # T3300SL) or SHARP
       (Model # 6700), you must inform the CONFIG program by stating your PC
       type as the FIRST command line parameter (e.g. CONFIG TOSHIBA ... or
       CONFIG SHARP ...).

    SLEEP Places modem in PCMCIA "Sleep Mode" which
                                is the lowest power consumption mode of the
                                modem.

    AWAKE Wakes-up a "Sleeping" modem (see SLEEP).

    RING Toggles the state of the Modem Resume from
                                Ring feature (ENABLE/DISABLE), with the
                                default of DISABLE.

    AUDIO Toggles the state of the audio signal during
                                dialing (ON/OFF), with the default of ON.

    RESET Performs a SOFT Reset to the modem. This is
                                almost the same as removing and then
                                re-inserting the card in the PCMCIA socket.
                                Please note that after this command completes,
                                the card will be treated as a memory card and
                                will require re-configuration before it can
                                be used as a modem again. (i.e. CONFIG COM2).

    START=nnnnn The memory window that is mapped onto the modem
                                card normally starts at 32bit address D0000h
                                and is 4 kB in size (only 2 kB are required by
                                the modem). If this range conflicts with other
                                hardware, then you can specify a new starting
                                segment using 4 hexadecimal digits.
                                Don't leave any spaces around the '='
                                sign. To guard against conflicts, the memory
                                window range should be excluded from use by
                                other applications.  See the documentation
                                supplied with DOS or your Extended Memory
                                Manager for details.

    PORT=xxx Set the PC Card Controller port I/O address
                                to the value 'xxx', which is in hexadecimal
                                format. The default value is 3E0.
                                NOTE: Don't leave any spaces around the '='
                                sign.

    AUTO Forces the CONFIG program to setup the
                                PCMCIA controller chip to the parameters
                                specified upon insertion or removal of the
                                KIT Modem without the car inserted.

    XMS Forces the CONFIG program to allocate a
                                4Kbyte memory block from extended memory,
                                which is the address space above 1MEG.

                                IRQ1 forces the HOTKIT.COM to poll the
                                status of PCMCIA controller chip to detect
                                insertion and removal of the KIT Modem. Valid
                                values for "n" are:
                                "n" = 1                 which polls PCIC
                                "n" = 5,7,9,A,B,C,E,F   used for INTEL 82365SL
                                                        PCIC and compatibles
                                "n" = 5,6,7,A,B,E       used for DATABOOK
                                                        DB86082 PCIC
                                The default value is 1, polling for card
                                insertion.

    CHECK Enables testing of the COM port assigned
                                (UART) during configuration.  Use this
                                parameter when the COM port selected does
                                not respond to an application program.
                                The program will search for an available COM
                                port to assign to the KIT card modem.

                  MODEM CONFIGURATION PROGRAM - USER GUIDE

    EXAMPLES

                                   audio OFF, then place modem in SLEEP mode.

        C:\> CONFIG AWAKE Return modem in SLOTA to full power mode,
                                   so that AT commands can be given, and calls
                                   placed.

        C:\> CONFIG START=D6000 COM1
                                   Configure modem in SLOTA to COM1, setting
                                   the PCMCIA memory window at segment D600h.
                                   (This is address D600:0000 and the window
                                   will be 4k-bytes in size)

        C:\> CONFIG START=D0000 COM2 IRQ1 AUTO
                                   Configure modem in SLOTA to COM2, setting
                                   the PCMCIA memory window at segment D000h,
                                   using polling for card detection and
                                   enabling the PCIC to generate interrupts
                                   on card insertion or removal

    Note that some PC systems require different parameters specified in order
    to correctly configure the KIT card.

    Also note that the parameters are not case sensitive. You can use upper
    or lower case characters.

    Also note that the potential for IRQ conflicts exists. Since the UART
    (the COM port) is on the modem, rather than inside the PC, you must
    ensure that the PC's COM port 'x' is disabled before attempting to use
    CONFIG COM<x>. If your PC does not have a COM2, then you can use CONFIG
    COM2 since the modem provides the COM port when you insert it. For more
    information on potential problems during installation, please refer
    to INSTALL.TXT file.

                        MODEM UPGRADE PROGRAM - USER GUIDE

    The KeepInTouch Card can be reprogrammed using the Modem Upgrade Program,
    UPGRADE. This allows the distribution of later revisions of firmware in
    order to support product improvements.

    Please note that the UPGRADE will not (usually) run correctly if your PC's
    PCMCIA device driver is installed. You should first comment out the
    PCMCIA driver in CONFIG.SYS by using the REM statement, and then re-boot
    the system.

    If you run UPGRADE on a PC running IBM's OS/2 operating system you must
    reseat the card in the PCMCIA socket after the upgrade is complete.

    Like the CONFIG program, the UPGRADE has a few command line parameters as
    listed below. The same comments noted in the seciotn on the CONFIG
    program about the PCMCIA memory window and the PC type also apply
    to the UPGRADE program.

    For online help simply type: UPGRADE HELP, from the DOS prompt.

    USING THE UPGRADE PROGRAM
    -------------------------
    The following steps describe the usage of the UPGRADE program to update
    the KIT card modem's firmware without PCMCIA drivers on your system.
    Note that sometimes UPGRADE will work even though PCMCIA drivers are
    loaded, but you would probably have to reboot the system after executing
    the UPGRADE program. You must run UPGRADE from DOS. You cannot run the
    program from Windows or from a DOS window.

    1. Obtain the latest firmware image file from the AT&T Paradyne Bulletin
       Board Service (BBS). See the procedure in this file describing how to
       access and use the BBS. If you are only upgrading your firmware for
       a cellular phone driver, then use the firmware release and cellular
       phone driver provided with this diskette in the RELxxxx.EXE file.
       This file is a self-extracting file that must be executed in order to
       uncompress and access its files.

    2. Once the firmware image file and drivers are uncompressed, execute the
       UPGRADE program to upgrade the KIT card for a particular cellular
       phone driver (*.DRV). Invoke the UPGRADE program at the DOS prompt
       with the following command:

        C:\> UPGRADE FILE=aaaaaaaa.bbb

             where aaaaaaaa.bbb is the firmware image filename

       The UPGRADE program defaults to using attribute memory window address
       D000:0000 and SLOTA (logical PCMCIA slot 1) for performing the firmware
       update.

       If you are upgrading for a cellular phone, then specify the phone group
       identification parameter. The phone group IDs are described in the
       CELLULAR.TXT file. An example of this command follows:

          C:\> UPGRADE PHONE=C

       This will upgrade the modem firmware with cellular phone software driver
       RELxxxxC.DRV, along with the base firmware image file RELxxxx0.B0. The
       'xxxx' identifies the firmware release number.

       The default PCMCIA controller is assumed to be register compatible with
       the INTEL 82365SL socket controller. See parameters below for other
       controllers supported.

    3. You may need to specify other command line parameters for the UPGRADE
       program in order to update the KIT card fimrware properly. UPGRADE
       program command line parameters and examples are described below.

       If your PC was manufactured by TOSHIBA (model # T3300SL) or SHARP
       (Model # 6700), you must inform the UPGRADE program by stating your PC
       type as the FIRST command line parameter (e.g UPGRADE TOSHIBA ... or
       UPGRADE SHARP ...).

    4. If the UPGRADE program fails, an error code or message will be printed
       on the display screen. Refer to the Error Codes section of this file
       to determine the cause and solution for the error.

       If you cannot resolve the problem, contact AT&T Paradyne Technical
       Support Center at 1-800-237-0016.

                                where 'xxx' is the hexadecimal value for the
                                I/O address. The default I/O address is
                                3E0, except when 'DATABOOK' parameter is used,
                                then the default I/O address is 240. For
                                the CompuAdd TX425, the I/O address is set to
                                2C0 when the 'COMPUADD' parameter is used.
                                NOTE: Do not leave any spaces around the
                                '=' sign.

    FILE=aaaaaaaa.bbb The file containing the new modem firmware is
                                specified by this parameter. The file name
                                follows normal DOS conventions.  Don't
                                leave any spaces around the '=' sign.

    PHONE=z The cellular phone software driver, called
                                RELxxxxz.DRV, where 'xxxx' is the base
                                firmware release number, and 'z' is the
                                cellular phone group ID.

    SLOTx Specifies the PCMCIA slot in which modem the
                                resides, where 'x' can be either 'A' or 'B'.
                                The default is 'A' which is consistent with a
                                single-slot PC.

    START=nnnn The memory window that is mapped onto the modem
                                card normally starts at segment D000h and is 4
                                kB in size (only 2 kB are required by the
                                modem). If this range conflicts with other
                                hardware, then you can specify a new starting
                                segment using 4 hexadecimal digits. Don't
                                leave any spaces around the '=' sign.

    EXAMPLES
    --------

        C:\UPGRADE SHARP SLOTB FILE=REL17810.B0
                        Upgrade the modem with the firmware in file
                        REL17810.B0, using a SHARP PC, model # 6700, in
                        the second PCMCIA slot (SLOTB). The PCMCIA attribute
                        memory window is set to segment D000h.

        C:\>UPGRADE START=D400
                        Upgrade the modem with the firmware in file
                        IMAGE.B0 (default file name), setting the PCMCIA
                        memory window to segment D400h.

        C:\>UPGRADE SHARP START=D400 FILE=REL17810.B0 PHONE=N
                        Using a SHARP PC, upgrade the modem with the firmware
                        in file REL17810.B0 with phone driver "REL1781N.DRV",
                        setting the memory window to segment to D400h.

        C:\>UPGRADE DATABOOK PORT=200 FILE=REL17810.B0
                        Using a PC with a Databook DB86082 Controller, upgrade
                        the modem with the firmware in file REL17810.B0, using
                        an I/O port address of 200h for the PC Card Controller.

    Note that in a PC with multiple PCMCIA slots, the KIT modem must be
    inserted in slot A or B for UPGRADE to be successful. If UPGRADE
    indicates that no card is detected, try another slot.

    The result of the reprogramming operation is stored in a log file
    called UPGRADE.LOG which is stored in the C:\KIT directory.

                      HOT INSERTION PROGRAM - USER GUIDE

    The KIT modem can be setup to initialize whenever it is inserted
    into the designated PCMCIA slot using the HOTKIT program. The HOTKIT
    program is a terminate and stay resident program that can be setup
    using the configuration option of the INSTALL program, and added to the
    AUTOEXEC.BAT file to initialize the KIT card when it is inserted. It
    can also be executed at a DOS prompt with the appropriate parameters to
    load the HOTKIT program into memory.

    Please note that the HOTKIT will not run correctly if your PC's
    PCMCIA device driver is installed. You should first comment out the
    PCMCIA driver in CONFIG.SYS by using the REM statement and re-boot your
    system.

    Like the CONFIG utility, HOTKIT has a few command line parameters
    described below.

    USING THE HOTKIT PROGRAM
    ------------------------
    The following steps describe the usage of the HOTKIT program for
    configuring the KIT card modem when it is inserted into the designated
    PCMCIA slot on your system.

    1. Determine the parameter values necessary for your computer system.
       (Reference the command line parameters below and your system's PCMCIA
        documentation.)

    2. Run the HOTKIT program by typing the following command at the DOS
       prompt:
         C:\> HOTKIT <PCIC> COM<x> START=D0000 IRQ<n> SLOT<z>

         The HOTKIT program will output an audio beep on your system to
         indicate that the KIT card modem was configured.

         If no audio beep is output, then the HOTKIT program had a conflict
         with the input parameters specified.

         If HOTKIT has already been loaded into memory, the following message
         will be displayed:
              Kit Modem Config is already installed.
              Press <R>emove or any other key to continue:

         You must enter R at the prompt to first remove the HOTKIT program
         from memory. You can now execute HOTKIT again with the correct
         parameters for your system.

    3. If the HOTKIT program still fails, then try using the auto-configure
       option in the INSTALL utility to determine the correct parameters for
       your system.

       NOTE: HOTKIT does NOT support all PC system.

       If you desire assistance, contact AT&T Paradyne Technical Support
       Center at 1-800-237-0016.

    4. If the HOTKIT program was successful (a single audio beep was output
       from the system speaker), you may now remove and insert the KIT modem
       without re-booting your PC, or running the CONFIG program again, in
       order to configure the KIT card modem.

                                set the I/O address. 'xxx' is a hexadecimal
                                value.
                                NOTE: Don't leave any spaces around the '='
                                sign.

    START=nnnnn The memory window that is mapped onto the modem
                                card normally starts at segment D000h and is 4
                                kB in size (only 2 kB are required by the
                                modem). If this range conflicts with other
                                hardware, then you can specify a new starting
                                segment using 4 hexadecimal digits. Don't
                                leave any spaces around the '=' sign.

    IRQn The IRQ line sensed for card insertion, where:
                                Valid values for "n" are:
                                "n" = 1                   which polls PCIC
                                "n" = 5,7,9,A,B,C,E,F     used for INTEL
                                                          82365SL PCIC and
                                                          compatibles
                                "n" = 5,6,7,A,B,E         used for DATABOOK
                                                          DB86082 PCIC

                                A,B,C,E,F implies IRQ10, IRQ11, IRQ12, IRQ14,
                                or IRQ15 is used to indicate when the card is
                                inserted.

    SLOTz Specifies the PCMCIA slot in which the modem
                                resides, where 'z' can be either 'A' or 'B'.

    EXAMPLES
    --------

        C:\>HOTKIT COM2 INTEL2 START=D2000 IRQA SLOTA
                        Initialize KIT modem when inserted to use COM port 2,
                        for an INTEL 82365 PCIC version 2, setting the PCMCIA
                        memory window to segment D200h, using interrupt 10 as
                        the hot insertion interrupt, in PCMCIA slot 1.

        C:\>HOTKIT COM3 SIRQ5 DATA START=D0000 PORT=2C0 IRQ1 SLOTA
                        Initialize KIT modem when inserted to use COM port 3,
                        interrupt level 5, for an Databook DB86082 PCIC,
                        setting the PCMCIA memory window to segment D000h,
                        polling for hot insertion status, in PCMCIA slot 1.

    Note that in a PC with multiple PCMCIA slots, the KIT modem can be
    inserted in slot B, but HOTKIT must be setup to know which slot in order
    to be successful.

    Also note that the parameters are case sensitive and must be specified
    using only uppercase characters.

    NOTE: HOTKIT will not work if the PCMCIA memory window is selected above
          1 MByte.

                           OS/2 CLIENT DEVICE DRIVER

                                  USER GUIDE

    The following description is the latest information on the KIT
    OS/2 client device driver.

    "OS/2" refers to IBM OS/2 operating system throughout this document.

=============================================================================

INTRODUCTION
------------
AT&T Paradyne has developed an OS/2 PCMCIA client device driver that will
configure the KIT card modem whenever the KIT card modem is installed in a
PCMCIA socket under the OS/2 version 2.1 operating environment.

This device driver requires Card Services and Socket Services to be installed
on the PC. Card services is provided by IBM and socket services is provided
by the PC manufacturer and/or by IBM. IBM provides the card and socket
services on various bulletin board systems.

If you install other PCMCIA card enablers (EasyPlay, Play-at-Will, etc.) you
will not have to install AT&T's device driver (KITOS2.SYS) providing those
card enablers support the AT&T KIT card. However you will need to make some
changes to your OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file (see INSTALLATION PROCEDURES below).

The following text describes the system requirements and installation
procedure necessary to use this driver.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------
To use the KIT card's OS/2 client device driver, the following is necessary:

  o OS/2 Version 2.1 operating environment
  o a minimum of 8 Megabytes of RAM
  o at least 1 PCMCIA socket
  o an available serial port (COM1, 2, 3, or 4)
  o the following versions of device drivers from IBM

  DEVICE DRIVER LATEST DATE MINIMUM DATE DESCRIPTION
  -------------    -----------  ------------  ----------------------------
  PCMCIA.SYS        05/24/94      01/31/94    PCMCIA CARD SERVICES
  VPCMCIA.SYS       05/24/94      04/22/94    VIRTUAL PCMCIA CARD SERVICES
  COM.SYS           05/24/94      10/13/93    COM PORT DRIVER
  VCOM.SYS 10/13/93 VIRTUAL COM PORT DRIVER
  Socket Services   See Note below
  Resource Manager  See Note below

  Note: Machine specific, see the README.TXT file contained in OS2PAW.ZIP

These IBM files can be obtained from a "zip" file labeled OS2PAW.ZIP on the
IBM Multinet Bulletin Board at 919-517-0001, also on CompuServe and many
other bulletin board systems. If you do not have access to these services,
then call the IBM Personal System Help Center at 800-772-2227 for technical
support of laptop computers using the OS/2 operating system.

INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
-----------------------
The OS2PAW.ZIP file contains IBM's Play-at-Will program which will enable
the KIT card. If you install Play-at-Will you don't need the AT&T KIT
device driver. However if you prefer, you can obtain the card and socket
services and the resource manager from OS2PAW.ZIP and install the AT&T
device driver instead of Play-at-Will. The two installation options are
outlined below.

To use IBM's Play-at-Will to configure the KIT card:
---------------------------------------------------
1) Obtain the OS2PAW.ZIP file from one of the bulletin boards.
2) Unzip the file in a directory other than the KIT directory.
3) Follow the "INSTALLATION" procedure described in IBM's README.TXT. This
   procedure will install the device drivers and update your CONFIG.SYS.
4) Edit your CONFIG.SYS file and add the switch "/IO0=12" to the end of the
   socket services device driver.

   Exmaple: DEVICE=<drv&dir>\socket.sys /IO0=12:

To use AT&T's device driver to configure the KIT card:
-----------------------------------------------------
1) Follow steps 1 and 2 of the "INSTALL.TXT" file (if you haven't already).
2) Obtain the OS2PAW.ZIP file from one of the bulletin boards.
3) Unzip the file in a directory other than the KIT directory.
4) Edit the OS/2 CONFIG.SYS file and add the KIT card's OS/2 device driver
   as follows:

   - If KIT modem is used in Socket 1 & COM2, add the following line:
        DEVICE=<drv&dir>\KITOS2.SYS S1C2

   - If KIT card modem is used in Socket 2 & COM2, add the following line:
        DEVICE=<drv&dir>\KITOS2.SYS.OS2 S2C2

   - If KIT card modem is used in Socket 1 or Socket 2 & COM2, add the
     following line:
        DEVICE=<drv&dir>\KITOS2.SYS S1C2,S2C2

5) Ensure that your CONFIG.SYS file contains the following device drivers.
   If it doesn't, then add them. These files are contained in the OS2PAW.ZIP
   file. See SAMPLE CONFIG.SYS file below for correct order of these device
   drivers within the CONFIG.SYS.

       DEVICE=C:\OS2\PCMCIA.SYS
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\VPCMCIA.SYS
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\COM.SYS
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\VCOM.SYS
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\Socket Services See Note 1 and Note 2 below
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\Resource Manager See Note 2 below

       Note 1: Add the switch "/IO0=12" to the socket.sys file.
               The following is an example of socket services for an
               IBM ThinkPad 750:

                   DEVICE=<drv&dir>\IBM2SS01.SYS /IO0=12

       Note 2: Machine specific, see IBM's README.TXT file from IBMPAW.ZIP
               to determine which Socket Service and Resource Manager to
               use.

    The ordering of the IBM and KIT card device drivers in the CONFIG.SYS
    file is important. Below is an example of a partial CONFIG.SYS from
    an IBM ThinkPad 750 using an AT&T Paradyne PCMCIA KIT Card. Your
    CONFIG.SYS may vary and not have all the same ".SYS" files, however
    the order in which the ".SYS" files mentioned above under "SYSTEM
    REQUIREMENTS" is important and noted below.

       ----------<          SAMPLE CONFIG.SYS             >----------
       ----------<         DEVICE DRIVER ORDER            >----------

       DEVICE=C:\OS2\APM.SYS
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VAPM.SYS
          .       .       .
          .       .       .
          .       .       .
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\PCMCIA.SYS           {Obtained from OS2PAW.ZIP}
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VPCMCIA.SYS     {Obtained from OS2PAW.ZIP}
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VMOUSE.SYS
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\POINTDD.SYS
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\MOUSE.SYS
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\COM.SYS              {Obtained from OS2PAW.ZIP}
       DEVICE=C:\KIT\KITOS2.SYS S1C2,S2C2 {AT&T KIT Card device driver}
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\VCOM.SYS
       CODEPAGE=437,850
       DEVINFO=KBD,US,C:\OS2\KEYBOARD.DCP
       SET VIO_SVGA=DEVICE(BVHVGA,BVHSVGA)
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VSVGA.SYS
       DEVICE=SCR,VGA,C:\OS2\VIOTBL.DCP
       SET VIDEO_DEVICES=VIO_SVGA
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\IBM2SS01.SYS /IO0=12 {machine specific from OS2PAW.ZIP}
       DEVICE=C:\OS2\ICRMU01.SYS          {machine specific from OS2PAW.ZIP}

6) Reboot the PC.

7) Insert the KIT card modem(S) into the socket(s) specified by the
   KITOS2.SYS device driver in the CONFIG.SYS file (see step 4 above).

   When the modem is installed into the PCMCIA socket and the KIT device
   driver receives the card insertion event there will be a high frequency
   tone through the system's speaker. Once the driver obtains all the
   necessary resources, there will be a second high frequency tone through
   the system's speaker.

   When the modem is removed from the PCMCIA socket there will be a low
   frequency tone when the driver releases all resources obtained at card
   insertion time.

TESTING AND PROBLEMS
--------------------

PROBLEM:
 If you boot the PC with the modem card installed in the PCMCIA socket, you
 may need to remove and reinsert the card after the PC completes its boot
 in order for the modem card to work.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

PROBLEM:
 If the KIT card does not enable when inserted, then check the following:

 - assure that the KIT card was inserted into the correct socket identified
    by the driver in the CONFIG.SYS file, and is seated properly in the
    PCMCIA socket.

 - assure that the COM port selected is available and not already used by
    another device in the system.

 - check the system configuration to assure the speaker is enabled.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

PROBLEM:
 When running DOS applications under OS/2 you may detect "Clutching" (modem
 tends to run in bursts). In this case, the DOS settings for the application
 may be incorrect. Use the following procedure to check/change the DOS
 settings:

      1. Select the item by moving the mouse pointer over the communication
         package ICON and pressing mouse button 1, then press mouse button 2.
      2. Move the mouse pointer over the "Open" action. Press and hold mouse
         button 1 and select "Settings".
      3. From the Settings notebook select "Session" and then "DOS settings".
      4. Check the following settings:

            COM_DIRECT_ACCESS .............. OFF
            COM_HOLD ....................... ON
            HW_ROM_TO_RAM .................. ON
            HW_TIMER ....................... ON
            IDLE_SECONDS ................... 60  (max)
            IDLE_SENSITIVITY ............... 100 (max)

      5. Save the settings and close the notebook.
